Why Mold Testing is Essential During Spring

While the Spring season is usually associated with rejuvenation and the welcoming embrace of nicer weather, it also hails the coming of new allergens into our homes and offices. At Purely Green Environmental, we’ve been at the forefront of ensuring our customers have optimal  indoor air quality since 2006. We’ve seen seasons come and go long enough to know that it is essential to the health of our family and co-workers to have our indoor environments tested for potentially harmful elements. Air quality testing in Massachusetts has been our most essential service since our inception.

It’s an unfortunate fact that the EPA estimates that the indoor air quality of many U.S. homes is worse than the air outdoors. In fact, the EPA reports that our indoor air quality could be as much as 5 times more contaminated with pollutants than the environment outside. It is data like this that serves to reinforce the importance of indoor air quality testing and mold testing in MA. And surprisingly, Spring is a season that can highly contribute to poor indoor air quality.

When winter fades away and the days become longer and warmer, we often like to open our doors and windows to air out our indoor environments. Unfortunately, this lets in a variety of allergens like pollen and mold spores that contribute to the overall poor quality of our indoor air. For people with or without pre-existing conditions like asthma, exposure to these elements can lead to short term health effects like eye and skin irritation, sneezing, and can also trigger asthma attacks. Air quality testing and mold testing in MA is the only way to be sure that you’re in a healthy environment.

Spring’s Effect on Indoor Air Quality

A woman opening her house window.Another contributing factor to poor indoor air quality is our use of air conditioners after a long, cold winter. During the winter months, a variety of airborne pollutants settle into our air ducts and air conditioners. When we neglect to effectively rid them of microscopic pollutants, pet dander, and dust, we unintentionally let loose a myriad of particulates that decrease the air quality of our indoor environments.

Spring cleaning is another activity that can contribute to poor indoor air quality. Giving our homes and offices a deep cleaning is always a great way to make them look good. The downside, however, is that many of the traditional cleaning products we use contain harmful chemicals called volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The introduction of these VOCs into our indoor environment creates air pollution equal to or greater than what we see in some of America’s most polluted cities. Natural cleaning products are a highly beneficial alternative to common cleaning products.

Spring cleaning also rustles up dust and other harmful elements like mold spores and pet dander that have settled over the winter months. This is another reason why mold testing in MA during the Spring season is such a necessary service. When it comes to indoor air quality in Massachusetts, one can never be too vigilant. The health of our family, friends, co-workers, and loved ones is always at stake. Let Purely Green Environmental do some professional indoor air quality testing and mold testing for you so that you can rest easy knowing that your living environment is a safe one.
